Before the invention of night vision goggles soldiers had to fight use searchlights as a way of enabling them to see in the dark. This could ultimately be detrimental as this may give away tactical positions, however with the development of night vision optics since the 1950’s, soldiers can now perform military tactics without fear of being discovered.
