With the advent of New Year, many new driving laws came to action. As safety while driving continues to be an important subject for government and citizens both. Cell Phone Usage

All most every state has already banned the use of mobile phones while driving. This rule has been made stricter:

  • Effective from January 1st, 2012, texting or messaging while driving is declared banned and one caught doing it will be heavily banned for it.

 

  • Drivers are even banned from using hand-held devices in work-related situations. Now the use of Cell phone in any form is completely banned.

Driving Safety Measures

  • The use of the booster seats has been made mandatory for the children below the age of eight. This will help in reducing the accidental death rate of children.
  • Wearing of safety belt for the adult passengers of backseat is also compulsory now. Those who are found violating the rule will be fined.

Drunken driving law has been made stricter by most of the states.

  • Those who found guilty will be punished and fined heavily.

Teen Driving

  • Focus has been put of Laws for teen driving. Stricter laws have been enacted that require teen drivers to turn in a record of their driving time in order to obtain their learner's permits. After which they need to submit a 60 hours confirmed supervised driving documentation. After the approval of which they will be entitled for permanent license.

 

Additional Laws

  • Other driving laws that came into effect from January2012 allows motorcyclists to cross the red lights after waiting for two minutes and cautiously check to make sure they can cross safely now. Also the cyclists are not allowed to use their cell phones without hands-free headsets.
